Understanding Your Cat’s Body Language
Share
Cats may not speak, but their bodies tell you everything you need to know. Learning to read your cat’s posture, tail, and facial expressions can help you understand how they feel and strengthen your bond.
1. The tail tells all:
A straight-up tail usually means a happy, confident cat, while a puffed-up tail signals fear or aggression.
2. Eyes and ears:
Slow blinking means trust, while dilated pupils indicate excitement or fear. Forward ears show curiosity; flattened ears mean your cat feels threatened.
3. Posture:
An arched back might show fear, while a relaxed, stretched-out cat is calm and content.
4. Vocal cues:
Soft purrs show comfort, chirps often mean excitement, and hisses are clear warnings to back off.
5. Whiskers and body tension:
Forward whiskers and a loose body mean your cat is interested or playful. Tense muscles and whiskers pulled back usually indicate stress.
Understanding these signals helps you respond to your cat’s needs and build deeper trust every day.
